
Shannon McMahon
Research Associate
Shannon McMahon is a Research Associate at DIBI and a PhD student in the Department of Political Science at Northeastern University. Shannon holds both an MA and a BA from Northeastern in Political Science and International Relations. Her research focuses on the global impact of genocide on a sociopolitical level, emphasizing macro-level post-transitional justice and the development of genocide education. McMahon’s work concentrates on the Middle East and the Balkans, where she has also conducted field research on genocide denial and memorial development. She is a member of the International Association of Genocide Scholars and received the 2024 Experiential Education Award for her work in the Balkans. Through her work, McMahon aims to build resilience in communities affected by genocidal violence, while improving education to shape how the world perceives and reacts to mass atrocities.
